Running the Chester Half Marathon for Wirral Camp!

Last month, our team completed mission #1 of 3 as part of our fundraising campaign to support children’s charity Wirral Camp!

Six members of the Yozu team successfully completed the Chester Half Marathon to support this wonderful cause.

What is Wirral Camp?

Wirral Camp is a local scheme that organises a week’s adventure holiday in North Wales for disadvantaged kids. The Camp is run entirely by volunteers and offers a fantastic range of activities, from arts and crafts to canoeing and Nerf games.

The holiday camp brings together children from different schools, neighbourhoods and backgrounds too.

It’s all about fostering friendships, teamwork, and resilience. The Camp organisers want these youngsters to push their boundaries, try new things, and, most importantly, just be kids, regardless of any challenges they may face.

This year we want to raise at least £2k to support the event! 🎯

How Support Can Make a Difference

Our aim is simple: we want to help raise funds to enable these kids to build confidence, learn new skills, and have a blast together and it’s amazing how even the smallest donations can make a difference.

• £4 would pay for a Wirral Camp T-shirt for a child
• £10 would pay for a child’s entrance to an indoor fun centre
• £20 would pay for a child’s food for the day
• £50 would pay for an activity with a qualified instructor such as canoeing, abseiling, cave exploring or gorge walking
• £100 would pay for two days of the holiday for a child
• £335 would provide a carnival day for the children including a giant inflatable ‘foam world’

Race Day

On a sweltering Sunday morning in May, Marcus, Ry, Justyn, Jet, Sinko and Chris joined over 6,000 runners in the race, which started at Chester’s iconic racecourse and finished at the Town Hall.

Thousands more watched on from the sidelines to wish the runners well, before the crowd moved to the centre of the city to line the roads towards the finish line. Chester’s Town Crier even gave a proclamation before the event started, such are Chester’s historic traditions.

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing – and the going was good!

The Finish Line

For the supporters from Yozu who weren’t running, everyone was able to follow our team participating in the event online using the race’s web tracking system and it helped us prepare to cheer the team over the finish line as they ran through… tired but victorious!

Well done done to everyone for not only completing the race, but to help gain more donations for our fundraising target!

Next up is a 70km bike ride from Chester to Liverpool in June! 🏃🚲
