Earlier this month, we completed mission #2 of 3 as part of our fundraising campaign to support children’s charity Wirral Camp!

Six Yozu cyclists successfully completed a challenging 70km distance from Chester to the outskirts of Liverpool!

What is Wirral Camp?

Wirral Camp is a local scheme that organises a week’s adventure holiday in North Wales for disadvantaged kids. The Camp is run entirely by volunteers and offers a fantastic range of activities, from arts and crafts to canoeing and Nerf games.

The holiday camp brings together children from different schools, neighbourhoods and backgrounds too.

It’s all about fostering friendships, teamwork, and resilience. The Camp organisers want these youngsters to push their boundaries, try new things, and, most importantly, just be kids, regardless of any challenges they may face.

This year we want to raise at least £2k to support the event! 🎯

How Support Can Make a Difference

Our aim is simple: we want to help raise funds to enable these kids to build confidence, learn new skills, and have a blast together and it’s amazing how even the smallest donations can make a difference.

  • £4 would pay for a Wirral Camp T-shirt for a child
  • £10 would pay for a child’s entrance to an indoor fun centre
  • £20 would pay for a child’s food for the day
  • £50 would pay for an activity with a qualified instructor such as canoeing, abseiling, cave exploring or gorge walking
  • £100 would pay for two days of the holiday for a child
  • £335 would provide a carnival day for the children including a giant inflatable ‘foam world’

Bike Challenge Day

Just about dodging the sweltering weather we were having that week, the team met at Chester station for an 8am start – travelling in from around Wales, Wirral and Cheshire. Kirsty, Paul, Daz, Ry, Chris and (long-term Yozu supporter) Jase got moving towards the River Dee cycle path despite a wrong turn within the first 30 seconds 🤣

If you’ve never hopped on a bike along Chester’s cycle paths, we recommend this one – a nice (flat!) path slowly drawing you away from the city into serene countryside and fantastic views.

The only problem to think about was the next 4-5 hours cycling, hoping we wouldn’t get lost or succumb to fatigue seeing as most of us hadn’t been on a bike for years!!

Charity Bike Ride

Ferry Across The Mersey

Our ride took us along the west coast of the Wirral. We powered past lovely spots like Neston, Thurstaston and Hoylake, before turning the corner towards Wallasey and New Brighton as we raced to catch our ferry to Liverpool.

After avoiding a wasp-related, multi-bike crash – and one or two of us not judging kerb heights very accurately (looking at you Ry!) – we reached Seacombe and had time for a quick refreshment (and forty winks in Daz’s case!) before we wheeled on to the ferry and took in the magnificent views of Liverpool as we pulled in to the Pier Head.

The final stretch took us along Liverpool’s promenade towards Otterspool, where we nudged past our 70km target and completed the second mission in our Land, Sea and Air series. 💪

Two Down…

Well done to our team for smashing the distance on the ride – we had our moments where everyone found it gruelling, but the thought of raising money for such an important cause like Wirral Camp spurred us on.

Next up is the final task – an abseil down the side of the Anglican Cathedral in July!!

If you’d like to make a donation or wish the team well in their final two events, you can access our JustGiving page here.
