Welcome to MerseyRails – Liverpool’s home for experts and enthusiasts who want to learn, share and connect with fellow aficionados

Are you a developer working with Ruby on Rails? Whether you’re just getting started with Rails, working on your own side-project, or part of a small team building web-based software, you’ve found the right community in MerseyRails. As we like to say, this is a place “where you’ve found your people.”

Why MerseyRails exists

In today’s world of sprawling frontend frameworks, microservices and heavy dependencies, Rails offers a different path: one of clarity, simplicity and productivity. MerseyRails was created to bring together Rails developers in the Liverpool / Merseyside region (and beyond) who believe in building software the “Rails way” — leveraging strong conventions, focusing on developer happiness and shipping great software.

What the meetup is all about

Each first Tuesday of the month from 17:00 at the Cotton Exchange, Liverpool, you’re invited to drop in with your laptop, your project and your energy.

Here’s the vibe:

  • 17:00: Arrive & set up, get coding, catch up with others.
  • Pizza break – because working (and learning) is better with food.
  • 18:30: Drinks, chat, celebrate what you’ve built, decide on your next commit.
  • Low-pressure, friendly, collaborative. Whether you’ve hit a roadblock or you’re showing off a big win—this is your space.

What you’ll gain

Connection. Being a Rails developer can feel solitary, especially if you’re working on your own or remotely. At MerseyRails you’ll meet others who share your stack, your wins and your frustrations.

Support. You can ask questions, pair up, share progress and get honest feedback. The group’s guiding principle: “Support each other to build and ship.”

Knowledge. With other folks in the room who’ve been there, you’ll pick up tips, learn resources, avoid common pitfalls—and grow your confidence.

Simplicity & focus. The meetup champions the Rails way: avoiding unnecessary complexity, staying focused on what works and shipping real results.

Hosted by Yozu

Yozu sponsors the meetup, providing a great venue and an environment that’s both professional and relaxed. Meeting at Yozu gives us a central Liverpool location and the chance to mingle with a company experienced in building web apps. This adds to the vibe: we’re a grassroots community backed by someone who “gets it”.

How to join

It’s free to attend—just register in advance so the organisers know how many pizza slices to order. Bring yourself, your laptop, your project (new or existing) and your enthusiasm. The only ask: be ready to show up, support others, and build something real.

Whether you’re deep into Rails or just curious and want to explore what it’s like, MerseyRails offers the kind of friendly, focused space developers often struggle to find. If you’re nearby (or in Merseyside), mark your calendar and come along. Let’s build and ship together.
