Getting to Know You: A Junior Developer’s First Month at Yozu

Meet Chris Morris, one of our new Junior Developers here at Yozu! We had a quick chat with Chris to find out a little more about him and his experience of Yozu so far…

What was it that appealed to you about working at Yozu?

The variety of clients that Yozu has, and the opportunity to work on new projects were both big draws for me. I really enjoy taking an idea from the “whiteboard” planning stage and being able to work towards the finished product with a great team. Add in the culture, city centre location, stunning office and it really was the perfect job – and company – for me.

Could you describe your experience of Yozu’s hiring process?

The initial video calls with members of the team were really good! I was a little bit apprehensive at first but the guys interviewing me were very friendly and approachable, which allowed me to settle down instantly and put my best foot forward. The third and final part of the process, the trial day, was also a great experience. Coming into the office to work with the team was exciting, and the positive experience further confirmed my desire to work here.

How has your first month at Yozu been?

My first month at Yozu has been really enjoyable! I’m still new to the Software Development industry, so these first few weeks have been spent learning React Native and improving my overall React knowledge. I have been allowed discretion on how I learn the subjects, whilst still having support readily available to me, which is something I really value about working within the Yozu team. At the moment, I’m building the Yozu Games challenge app in React Native and hoping to move on to client projects soon!

What do you hope to achieve whilst working at Yozu?

I hope to become adept at front-end, back-end and data science here at Yozu. I also would love to improve my design skills – and being able to have the support from the talented designers we have here is the perfect way to do it. I can genuinely see myself with the company for a long time.
